Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

The Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is a chance for Medicare beneficiaries to evaluate their current coverage against the latest plans available and switch. AEP runs from October 15-December 7 every year.

Medicare plan details can change from year-to-year. Even if you’re pleased with your current plan, consider the following:

  • You could be missing out on additional benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, prescription drug coverage, and more.
  • There could be similar plans available in your area that are lower cost
  • There could be changes by your carrier to your current plan that can impact your out of pocket expenses.

What can I do during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period?

As a Medicare beneficiary, during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period you can change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, switch from one Advantage plan to another, change or add a new Prescription Drug Plan.

Any changes made during the fall Annual Open Enrollment period take effect on January 1 of the following year.
